I woke to sunlight streaming through the windows. My head felt clearer after Kaleigh's intervention, though fragments of last night's vision still lingered at the edges of my mind.

The horrors I'd seen in my dreams made me eager to focus on what I knew best - combat.

I dressed quickly in training clothes and made my way to the townhouse's courtyard. The morning chill bit through my clothes, helping to push away the last remnants of sleep.

Few were awake at this hour - only the guards changing shifts and servants beginning their daily duties.

Drawing the Blade of Shadows, I began the forms I'd practiced countless times across two lifetimes. Each movement flowed into the next with practiced precision - cut, parry, thrust, dodge.

My muscles were finally starting to catch up with my memories, the younger body adapting to techniques learned through years of desperate survival.

"Good morning, my lord," Aerin said from the doorway. She was already dressed for training, her own blade at her hip. "Starting early?"

I continued through the sequence without breaking rhythm. "The Academy trials will test combat skills. I need to be ready."

She watched my movements with a professional's eye. Even in practice forms, I could feel her analyzing my technique, noting the experience that shouldn't be possible.

"Your form is excellent. Almost like you've been training for decades."

I allowed myself a small smile. If she only knew.

"Show her what you can do, contractor."

"Care to spar?" I asked, bringing my blade to ready position.

Aerin drew her sword with fluid grace. "I should warn you, my lord. I hold a three-star rating in swordsmanship."

"Is that meant to discourage me?" I settled into a ready stance, feeling the familiar weight of the blade.

Her eyes narrowed. "Are you certain about this? I know after the bandit attack you might be feeling confident, but that power I saw... that's not one to reveal so easily in a training spar."

I lowered my blade slightly, offering a confident smile. "That power won't be necessary for a simple spar, Aerin. My sword skills alone should suffice."

She raised an eyebrow. "You sound quite sure of yourself, my lord."

"I am." I raised my blade back to position. "Shall we begin?"

Her response was a lightning-fast thrust that I deflected with practiced ease. The clash of steel on steel echoed through the courtyard.

Aerin was good - her technique polished and precise, each movement flowing seamlessly into the next. The three-star rating was well-earned.

But I'd fought and killed men far more skilled in my past life. My body might be younger, but my mind remembered every desperate battle, every kill-or-die moment that had forged me into something more than just another noble swordsman.

I parried her next strike and countered with a complex series of attacks that forced her back three steps. Her eyes widened slightly at the display of skill, recognition dawning that she faced someone far beyond what she'd expected.
